Well the weather has certainly been quite challenging through the winter with lots of wet play days. In my setting we very much have an outdoor ethos and try and take the children out and about as much as possible. This not only helps them with their social skills but also encourages a love of the outdoors and helps to satisfy their naturally inquisitive nature. Somedays though we have to stay at home and even then we like to keep the children engaged as much as we can. Baking is very much a part of this and we like to take the children shopping for ingredients to enrich their understanding of food from farm and manufacture to plate as well as learning to pay for their items. They really enjoy the tactile nature of handling ingredients, measuring and creativity. We encourage an understanding of healthy eating like making bread rolls in the pictures below. We also know that sweet treats of cakes and biscuits are always fun, especially when they take some home to mum and dad like the ones in the photos too.
